Clear Aligners

If you have considered straightening your teeth, but you don’t like the idea of wearing metal braces, clear aligners could be your solution.

How Clear Aligners Work

Instead of relying on metal brackets and wires, invisible braces use clear plastic aligners that fit snugly against your teeth and move them gently into alignment.

You need to wear your clear aligners for 20 to 22 hours per day, removing them for meals, brushing, and flossing. Every two to three weeks, you will move to the next set of aligners according to Dr Li’s treatment plan. Dr Li will see you regularly to ensure that your treatment is progressing as planned.

Compliance is the key to success with clear aligners. When you wear your aligners as much as possible and keep your teeth clean with daily brushing and flossing, you’ll achieve the best results.

What Are the Advantages of Clear Aligners?

Clear aligners offer several benefits over braces that our patients appreciate.
Discretion
Since aligners are clear, they are essentially invisible, and no one will notice your orthodontic treatment.
Freedom
Since clear aligners are removable, you enjoy the freedom to eat the foods you love without restriction.
Cleanliness
Brushing and flossing are simple with clear aligners because they are removable.
Comfort
Unlike metal braces, clear aligners are smooth, easy and comfortable to wear.

Frequently Asked Questions

Clear aligners can address a wide range of alignment concerns and offer a discreet alternative to traditional braces. Dr Li and the team assess each patient carefully to determine whether clear aligners suit their individual needs.

Clear aligners can help with:

  • Crowded teeth, where there isn't enough space in the jaw
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Some crossbites
  • Overbites and underbites
  • Rotated or twisted teeth
  • Tooth shifting after previous orthodontic treatment

How Do Clear Aligners Work?

Aligners apply consistent pressure to gently guide teeth into better positions over time. Patients wear a series of custom-made trays, each shifting the teeth slightly toward the desired outcome. Most people change their aligners every one to two weeks, depending on Dr Li's treatment plan.

Beyond the cosmetic benefits, straighter teeth often make daily brushing and flossing easier, which supports better overall oral hygiene. Correcting bite issues can also ease strain on the jaw and reduce uneven wear on certain teeth.

It's worth noting that clear aligners don't suit every case. Some complex alignment issues respond better to traditional braces or other orthodontic approaches. This is why a thorough assessment with Dr Li is an important first step.

Caring for Your Aligners

Looking after your aligners helps keep your treatment on track and your teeth healthy. Rinse your aligners each time you remove them to wash away saliva and bacteria, and brush them gently with a soft toothbrush. You can also soak them in a cleaning solution a few times a week to keep them clear and fresh.

Store your aligners in their case whenever they're out of your mouth, as wrapping them in a napkin or leaving them loose in your bag makes it easier to lose or damage them. Avoid eating or drinking anything other than water while wearing your aligners, as food particles and sugary drinks can stain them or lead to decay.
