Children's Dentistry
Many children feel nervous before a dental visit, and this is completely normal. At St Anthony Dental, Dr Li and his team understand this and take gentle steps to help your child feel safe and comfortable.
How We Approach Dental Care with Children
We use the show, tell and do method with every young patient. First, we show your child the tools we'll use and let them safely touch and explore them. Next, we explain in simple, friendly language exactly what will happen during the visit. Finally, we carry out the treatment slowly and calmly, checking in with your child throughout.
Dr Li and the team take time to build trust with children rather than rushing through appointments. We encourage questions, celebrate small wins and let your child set the pace wherever possible. Our goal is to help each child build positive associations with dental visits from an early age.
Here are some tips that may help your child feel less anxious:
- Talk about the visit in a positive, casual way beforehand
- Avoid words like "pain" or "hurt" when describing the appointment
- Bring a favourite toy or comfort item along
- Book an early appointment when your child feels fresh and rested
- Consider a "meet and greet" visit before any treatment begins
- Praise your child afterwards, regardless of how the visit went
If your child has significant dental anxiety, please let our team know beforehand so we can tailor our approach to their needs.
