When to Call for Emergency Care

๐Ÿฆท
Severe Toothache
Persistent or throbbing tooth pain that is affecting your day โ€” especially if accompanied by swelling, fever or sensitivity to hot and cold โ€” needs urgent attention.
๐Ÿฆท
Broken, Cracked or Knocked-Out Tooth
Dental trauma requires prompt treatment. A knocked-out tooth in particular must be attended to within 30โ€“60 minutes for the best chance of saving it.
๐Ÿฆท
Lost Filling, Crown or Restoration
A lost filling or crown leaves your tooth exposed and vulnerable to further damage. We can often replace or recement it the same day.

Additional Emergency Situations

Dental abscess or facial swelling
Broken or loose orthodontic wire
Gum bleeding that won't stop
Toothache keeping you awake at night
Chipped or fractured tooth
Soft tissue injury inside mouth

Before You Arrive โ€” First Aid Tips

  • Knocked-out tooth: keep it moist โ€” place in milk or hold between cheek and gum
  • Broken tooth: rinse mouth gently with warm water; save any fragments
  • Toothache: take over-the-counter pain relief if needed; avoid applying aspirin directly to gum
  • Soft tissue injury: apply gentle pressure with clean gauze to control bleeding
  • Dental abscess: do not pop โ€” call us immediately; this can become serious

Frequently Asked Questions

How quickly can you see me for a dental emergency?
We hold same-day slots for genuine dental emergencies. Call us as early as possible โ€” (02) 9055 5441 โ€” and we will do our best to see you the same day.
What counts as a dental emergency?
Any situation causing severe pain, swelling, bleeding, dental trauma (broken or knocked-out teeth), a lost restoration exposing the tooth, or a suspected dental abscess should be treated as an emergency.
My tooth has been knocked out โ€” what should I do?
Keep the tooth moist โ€” place it back in the socket if possible, hold it in your cheek, or keep it in milk. Call us immediately. Time is critical: the best chance of saving a knocked-out tooth is within 30โ€“60 minutes.
I'm not an existing patient โ€” can I still be seen?
Yes. We welcome new patients in emergencies. Call us on (02) 9055 5441 and our team will arrange an appointment as soon as possible.
Is a dental abscess an emergency?
Yes. A dental abscess is a serious infection that requires prompt treatment. If left untreated, it can spread and become a medical emergency. If you have facial swelling, fever, or difficulty swallowing, seek urgent care immediately.
What are your opening hours?
We are open Monday to Friday. Call us on (02) 9055 5441 or visit our website for current hours. For after-hours emergencies, we recommend attending your nearest hospital emergency department.
